Bio

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Butters has more than 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families involved in the court system. He is currently an assistant professor and chair of the forensic social work domain at the U’s College of Social Work, where he teaches research and advanced social work practice courses, and conducts his own research on juvenile delinquency and youth with behavior problems. He is also the president and clinical director of LifeMatters Counseling and Health Center, an outpatient mental health treatment facility in Salt Lake City.

Bio

Audrey  has been with the Utah Criminal Justice Center since 2003. Her research interests include juvenile and adult alternatives to incarceration, substance abuse, justice system policy, behavioral interventions, and disproportionate minority contact in the justice system.

Bio

Matt has been with the Utah Criminal Justice Center since 1998. He is currently developing practical evaluation and quality improvement methods for juvenile justice programs. He has also been working to develop innovative methods of training mental health clinicians using interactive, electronic training systems. For the past eight years, he has worked to create a set of tools to improve the quality of juvenile justice programming for the Utah Board of Juvenile Justice and the Utah Administrative Office of the Courts.

Michael Tanana – Statistician

Bio

Mike has been with the Utah Criminal Justice Center since 2007. He specializes in statistical methods for predicting juvenile and adult recidivism. Additionally, Mike has an interest in creating online, interactive tools for visualizing data. Before joining the center, Mike worked for various psychology and epidemiology research projects at the University of Vermont and Dartmouth Medical School. Prior to working in research, his job was to take adolescent offenders rock climbing.

Erin has been with the Utah Criminal Justice Center since 2001. Her primary research interests include juvenile and adult alternatives to incarceration, substance abuse, homelessness, disproportionate minority contact, and offender re-entry.

Mindy Vanderloo – Research Analyst

Bio

Mindy has been with the Utah Criminal Justice Center since 2009. Her primary interest is in the treatment and rehabilitation of juvenile offenders, particularly juvenile sexual offenders. She specializes in treatment fidelity and implementation of evidenced-based practices and is trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments, including EMDR, ART, and DBT. In addition to working for UCJC, Mindy is a licensed clinician and conducts Sexual Behavioral and Risk Assessments and treats court involved youth.

Christian has 15 years experience in victim services. Her primary interests include the design and evaluation of programs to prevent sexual and domestic violence and the evaluation of multi-disciplinary sexual assault response teams.

Bio

Jen recently relocated to Utah from Montana, where she served 6 years as the Executive Director of the Center for Restorative Youth Justice. Her primary area of interest includes the development, implementation, and evaluation of restorative justice programs that include a strong stakeholder engagement, youth empowerment, and victim focused approach.
